Christmas at Sun Peaks

December 2007

December 11, 2007 – Sun Peaks, BC - Christmas is always a wonderful time of year for families to come together to celebrate, eat and make memories.  At Sun Peaks Resort, Christmas is an exciting time because there is so much to do and experience.  In addition to the plethora of activities and events that are available all winter including skiing and boarding, dog sledding, snowshoeing and skating, during the holidays the resort has a multitude of special events to take part in.

Begin the Holiday Season right this year at the Christmas Farmers Market in the breezeway of the Village Daylodge from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday December 20th.  Thistle Farms will be there with organic vegetables, cheeses, eggs, Christmas baking and more to get you stocked up for the holidays.  Upper Levels Catering will also be onsite with prepared foods that make quick meals easy when you are in a rush.

The Crafty Creations for the Holidays series is a complimentary, family focused event to help get everyone into the spirit.  Get back to basics and get crafty for Christmas gifts and treats made the old fashion way… by hand!  Ornaments made the evening of December the 22nd can then be brought and hung on the Village tree at the Village Tree Lighting at 7:00pm in the
Village Square
under the clock tower.

December 21 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm in Bento’s Daylodge – Votive Candle Holders

December 22 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm in Bento’s Daylodge – Wreaths & Ornaments

December 26 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm in Bento’s Daylodge – Caramel Apples

Christmas week there are plenty of fun events to take part in.  Start off your day having Breakfast with Santa on December 24th at 8:00am or 9:00am, then join him at the top of the Sunburst Express Chairlift on December 23rd and 24th at 11:00am and 1:00pm for Skiing with Santa.  In the evening, join in for Sleigh Rides with Santa.  After your sleigh ride, meet at the Village Daylodge at 6:30pm or the clocktower at 7:00pm on December 23rd and 24th for the ever popular Village Caroling.  Stroll through the Village singing all your favourite Christmas Carols led by Olympic Gold Medalist Nancy Greene.

On Saturday, December 29th gather up the family for the Sun Peaks Holiday Concert.  Featuring Concertmaster Cvetozar Vutev and other artists from the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra as well as special appearances by some younger performers, this not to be missed evening presents an array of light and familiar classical favourites.  Tickets can be purchased through the Activities and Information Centre at 250-578-5542.

New Year’s at Sun Peaks bring another whirlwind of fun and excitement.  Join us for the New Year’s Eve Celebrations beginning at 6:30pm at the Village Platter where the little ones will kick off the evening with the Glowstick Parade.  After the children light up the night, head over to the lower section of the Sundance Terrain Park to witness First Flight presented by West 49, a demonstration of slopestyle acrobatics complete with spotlights and a DJ to really get everyone’s spirits high.  Following First Flight, it’s the adult’s turn to make their mark in the Torchlight Descent on the Sundance.  The procession down Sundance Mountain begins at 8:15pm and creates an amazing pyrotechnic illusion. To participate you must register at Guest Services between 5:00pm and 7:00pm on December 31st.  The grand finale for the evening is the Fireworks Show which begins at 8:30pm.  Gather at the base of the Sundance Express Chairlift for a show that is bound to please children of all ages.

After the festivities on the mountain come to a close, head in to the many New Year’s parties around the Village to dance the night away.  For more information about dinners and celebrations for both Christmas and New Year’s contact the Activity and Information Centre at 250-578-5542 or check us out online at www.sunpeaksresort.com.
