June 2007
Calgary, AB – June 4, 2007 – Big snow graced the Canadian Rockies from November through May this season, bringing above average and even record snowfall to Lake Louise Mountain Resort, Fernie Alpine Resort, Kimberley Alpine Resort and Nakiska.
With snow starting in September, Lake Louise Mountain Resort had powder conditions for skiers enjoying the annual Bombardier Winterstart World Cup, which took place at the world-famous Resort in November. Throughout the season, veteran visitors of the Resort remarked it was “the best snow season ever.” By the end of the season, Lake Louise Mountain Resort had received 553cm (over 18 feet) of snow. With huge snow coverage, Lake Louise’s Powder Bowls opened up virtually unlimited skiable terrain on the backside of the Resort.
Fernie Alpine Resort, known for its legendary powder, received 910cm (30.3 feet) of snow this season, above its average of 875 cm (29 feet). The Resort also showcased the debut of its newest addition, the mountaintop Lost Boys Café. Nearby Kimberley Alpine Resort had epic ski conditions, with close to 7 metres (694cm or 23 feet) of snow this season, well above its average of 4.5 metres (15 feet).
Says Matt Mosteller, Senior Director of Business Development for Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, “We have had an incredible and memorable snow season in the Canadian Rockies. Our guests enjoyed our famous champagne powder, spectacular scenery and warm hospitality. We’re already looking forward to our next season of skiing and riding. In fact, lots of skiers and riders are already making their bookings now for the upcoming winter season.”
