Wildlife Tours
Kodiak is Alaska's gem. Culturally diverse, lush and more temperate than much of the rest of the state. It is located about 400km southwest of Anchorage with a population of just over 7600.
Situated in the Gulf of Alaska, Kodiak Island is a national wildlife refuge with more than 60% of the island unaccessible by road.
About 3000 brown bears, the coastal cousins of the grizzley, live in the Kodiak archipelago. When they first come out of hibernation in the spring the bears feed on plants and berries. They soon turn to river runs of abundance salmon that return from the ocean to spawn in the summer.
Year round fishing offers angles deep-sea and streamside opportunites for halibut, five species of slamon, trophy rainbow trout, steelhead and Dolly Varden.
Sea kayaking is a novel way to explore the ever-changing tidal flats in and around Kodiak Island. Paddlers come close to Steller sea lions, sea otters and often see whales.
