Whales, Vikings, icebergs and seabirds galore! Discover the dramatic landscapes and ancient history of Newfoundland and Labrador. This is the home of North America's largest puffin colony, black bears, moose, large caribou herds, and the world's largest gathering of humpback whales, plus up to 8 other whale species. You will get close enough to smell their salty breath and feel the spray as they lift their 40 tonnes out of the water for your camera.
Sample Itinerary
Day 1 - St Johns
Transfer from airport to group hotel.
Day 2 - St Johns
Boat trip to see whales and North America's largest puffin colony. Explore one of the New World's earliest fishing villages. Overnight St Johns.
Day 3 - St Bride's
Circle the Avalon Wilderness Area and visit a puffin colony, a tern colony - you may even see some whales, seals and caribou herds. Sometimes the whales lunge feed on the local beach - an amazing spectacle. Travel to St Bride's for overnight stay.
Day 4 - Terra Nova National Park
Visit the continents thrid largest gannet colony and see gannets, kittiwakes and murres with their eggs & chicks. Around mid-July enjoy fantastic land based whale watching frlom the high cliffs. Visit the first oupost of New France. Two nights at Terra Nova National Park where you will search for moose and bears.
Day 5 - Terra Nova National Park
Spend a wild and wonderful day in Terra Nova following walking trails, bird watching, beachcombing or sea-kayaking. You may see moose, osprey, orchids and icebergs. Other options such as flightseeing can bee added at extra cost.
Day 6 - St Johns
On a boat trip to see bald eagles you may also see whales and during June and July icebergs - 15,000 year old chunks of Greenland glaciers. Overnight in St Johns.
Day 7 - St Johns
Cruise the St Johns area in search of whales, and reach North America's most easterly point. Explore the museums and sights of historic St Johns.
Day 8 - Tour Ends
Free day until transfer to the airport for your journey home.
